This is a picture of the Clock Tower in Hwa Chong. Hwa Chong is often linked to the Clock Tower for good reason. It means a lot to me in that as a historic site, this place holds a lot of the past. Countless Hwa Chong students have passed through this, and I am just one of them. It has stood for very long, through hard times and peaceful times, and this is reflective of how education should be. A person, whether in rain or shine, should not stop learning, even as the clock tower maintained its function through the Japanese invasion in the 1940s. This tower is right at the heart of Hwa Chong, and the very best of its students get to study right in this iconic building. As a student, I aspire to be one of these students and so the Clock Tower also represents my academic dreams to me. I believe that again, I am but one of many who have looked at it in this way. Emblazoned at the centre of the tower is the Hwa Chong logo, high and proud for all to see. It links to my identity as a student of this school as this logo is representative of my “second home”, a place where I make friends, interact with them and study, and as mentioned earlier, the clock tower is as representative of Hwa Chong as the logo is. Everytime I pass by, when I look up, I am reminded I am a student of Hwa Chong. This building is one I will remember for a long time to come.
