Weekend Assignment 2 - Song Write-up: Where is The Love by The Black Eyed Peas

The main message in the song “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas is that racism and prejudice still exist even in the modern world, where

“Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin' in the USA”

points out that even as the USA tries to put a stop to terrorism elsewhere, right in their own country, even in “the big CIA” are people who, in the eyes of the singers, are terrorists of a sort, meaning that they treat blacks unfairly, and that the supposed “law-upholders” are at the same time the people who commit “crimes” of discrimination against the blacks.

I have the strongest feeling at this part:

“Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

This is because I feel that within this plea, there resides a hidden meaning. By “love” they mean the love God gives to all equally. So the singers mean that all people were created as equals, so where is the “love”. In other words, since all people are equals at birth, why is it that they are treated differently?
